Medical Acupuncture

Medical acupunture is a safe effective treatment that is often used by osteopaths for muscle pain as well as other painful problems. Our osteopaths only use sterile, single use needles to treat our patients.

Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to regulate pain mechanisms for effective relief from symptoms. This is achieved by inserting needles at precise acupuncture points. The modern scientific explanation is that needling acupuncture points stimulates the nervous system to release our own natural chemicals in the skin, muscles, spinal cord and brain. These chemicals will either change the experience of pain or they will trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones which influence the body’s own internal regulating system.

Medical acupuncture is particularly effective in treating headaches and painful trigger points in muscles and enables access to deeper tissues that may be inaccessible to massage.

The needles we use are all single-use disposable acupuncture needles making this form of treatment incredibly safe.

Some patients come to the Bexleyheath Osteopathic Practice for acupuncture only, however it can also be used in conjunction with osteopathic techniques. Please see our “Prices” page for acupuncture charges.
